How to Troubleshoot Network Connectivity

Is the user at their normal location? 

Is it a wired or wireless network?

If wired, has user checked the cables to ensure they are connected at both ends and secure?

If wireless, can the user see the SSID that they need to connect to? Does it show that they are connected to the Wi-Fi?
